We’ve seen tweets in numbers I stopped counting, facebook campaigns that would leave many advertising managers blushing and for the most part, very friendly competition.

So without further ado, here are the points for the public voting section of the 2009 Lonely Planet Travel Blogging Awards – remember these points only account for 50% of the overall score. Now the judges get to work for the remaining 50%.

Nominations closed on Wednesday 18th at midday Melbourne (AUS) time. We’ll now work out the top five nominated blogs for each category before posting them here for public voting on the 25th Feb 2009.

Here are the list of categories that you have suggested over the last few weeks for the first ever Lonely Planet Travel Blogger Awards.

The idea is you submit your nominations under the categories below, then about mid-Feb (we’ll confirm the date closer to the time) we’ll close nominations and public voting will start for the top five nominated blogs in each category.

Please do make sure that you put the Blog URL in the fields below – starting with http:// – for example – http://lplabs.com – rather than just the Blog Title.

Some notes: You can submit as many blogs as you like for each category – just separate the Blog URLs with a , we ask for your name and email, but we’ll only use those details to administer the nominations, we’ll also use your email to let you know when nominations close, voting begins and a few other emails about the awards as we get closer to the awards evening. After that we’ll delete your details from our system and wont use them again. Any questions email me on matthew.cashmore@lonelyplanet.com. Aquí teneis la lista de categorías que han creado nuestros lectores durante las últimas semanas para el el 1er concurso Lonely Planet de blogs de viaje..

La idea es que presenteis vuestras nominaciones para las siguientes categorías, y luego para mediados de febrero (confirmaremos la fecha más adelante) cerraremos las nominaciones y comenzará la votación. Los cinco blogs más nombrados en cada categoría aparecerán en la votación.

Por favor registrad la URL del blog, empezando con http:// (por ejemplo, http://lplabs.com), y no simplemente el título del blog.

Algunos apuntes:
-Podeis nombrar cuántos blogs deseeis para cada categoría; nada más hay que separar los URLs con una ,
-Solamente pedimos el nombre e e-mail para poder administrar y cerrar las nominaciones, cuando empiece la votación, y algunas cosas más en cuánto a los premios mientras nos acerquemos a la fecha de la ceremonia. Después de eso borraremos su información del sistema y no volveremos a usarlos. (why not?)

This year sees the very first Lonely Planet Travel Bloggers Awards. Lonely Planet has always had the very best travel information out there, and as more and more people blog about their experiences and travel all over the world, it made perfect sense for us to celebrate those brilliant authors.

The winners of the awards will be announced in March at a party in San Francisco, at the same time as the first ever Travel Blogger un-conference. Nominations are now open in 13 categories, and will close in mid feb at which point we’ll pick the five most nominated blogs in each category and open those for public voting. Public voting is going to count for 50% of the over-all score, the remaining score will come from a panel of selected experts – respected bloggers, Lonely Planet Authors and other industry celebrities.

With all this work going on for blogsherpa, it occurred to us that as well as paying people for their travel related blog posts, we should also do some awards for Travel Bloggers.

We thought that, being LP, we could probably come up with some pretty cool prizes, in a pretty cool place, and perhaps – if we push the boat out – some kind of trophy type thing. Maybe.

So, rather quietly (because I’ve not sorted the details yet) I’m announcing The Lonely Planet 2009 Travel Bloggers Awards – or the TLPTBAs – may have to work on that.

The idea, is to open nominations first thing in Jan in a few categories (suggestions? comment below), close them at the end of Feb – then set up a panel of rather cool people made up of brilliant bloggers, some of our authors and commissioning editors and let them vote BUT… their vote would only make up 50% of the overall socre – the other 50% would come from the public via online voting.

The winners would then be announced with rather grand fanfare in San Francisco in March 2009, at a party of some sort.

That’s it really – I’ll create a new tag (lpawards) here for the awards and as they develop I’ll update more here. Ideas, suggestions and thoughts most welcome.
